Sligo Rovers have confirmed that President Michael D Higgins will be among the guests at The Showgrounds this Saturday as the club celebrate its 90th anniversary.

This Saturday's game against Bray Wanderers will see the club host a special family-day at the Showgrounds with a range of activities planned to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the club’s first competitive game in September 1928.

There will be a guaranteed party atmosphere on the day, with free admission (and popcorn!) for Under 12’s. Benny the Bull will be assisted by a number of Disney characters making a guest appearance, and there will be inflatables, competitions and much more. Many of Rovers former players will also be in attendance, as the club marks this historic day.

On the night the club are inviting every player who has ever represented the Bit O’Red to come along on the night as their guests.

Club Chairman, Martin Heraghty anticipates a special night for the club saying, "This has been a long and challenging season, our supporters have been very loyal and this game provides us with an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ and to acknowledge the importance of our younger supporters in particular.

"The 90th anniversary celebrations also offer a chance to reflect on our long history, the many difficult years interspersed with some glorious successes. There is a great sense of history around Sligo Rovers, our supporters are keenly aware of our community tradition and ethos, and I hope people will make the effort to join us on this special day.”

Gates open from 6pm and supporters are asked to come early to be a part of the clubs 90 year celebrations. Under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult.

The game will see Sligo Rovers wear a special 90th anniversary jersey, a limited amount of which were on sale to the public but quickly sold out.
