Lots of questions for intriguing Corrib Oil Junior Final as Carrigallen take on St Mary's

Next Sunday sees the last adult club final of the year when Carrigallen take on St Mary's Kiltoghert in the Corrib Oil Junior A Final in Avant Money Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada (2pm throw-in).

Relegated last year from Intermediate, Carrigallen would have been the early favourites to go right back up but they suffered a hiccup when losing a group stages game to Cloone. However, they made amends with a comfortable 1-9 to 0-4 win over Cloone in the semi-final after beating Glenfarne Kiltyclogher by a point in the quarter finals.

Fans braved the wind and rain on the October Bank Holiday Monday to cheer on Gortletteragh and Leitrim Gaels in the Corrib Oil Junior B FC Final in Pairc Cil Tiobraid and Observer photographer Willie Donnellan was there to capture some great images of Gortletteragh's celebrations and fans attending the match .... see who you can spot!

Many will have them down as red hot favourites as they are coming up against a second string side in St Mary's Kiltoghert but these Carrick lads may just upset the apple cart, having drawn with Eslin and beating Glenfarne in the group stages.

They overcame Annaduff 1-11 to 0-6 last weekend in the semi-final and fair to say that the mood is good in the Mary's camp right now. They may have lost a lot of players but they could follow Mohill in beating a first string side to claim the Junior crown on Sunday.

And that's where my questions come in. The County Board restricted second teams this year more than previous years  by ruling out players who line out in the knockout stages of the Senior and Intermediate grades but a Mary's win might just negate that.

No team has a right to win and fair play to St Mary's and Mohill for developing their strength in depth but I'd rather see first teams having their day of glory. Perhaps mirroring the League format with B Championships for second strings is the way to go but that's for another day.

Carrigallen start as favourites, they have quality and motivation, just don't rule out another St Mary's victory!
