ALERT: Leitrim issued Status Orange 'severe weather warning' by Met Éireann

A severe weather warning for wind has been issued for Leitrim by Met Eireann.

The national forecaster has warned that Storm Darragh will bring very strong and gusty northwest winds.

Potential impacts include fallen trees, damage to power lines, very difficult travelling conditions, damage to temporary structures and wave overtopping.

The Level Orange wind warning is in operation from 10pm on Friday, December 6 until Saturday, December 7 at 9am. 
In addition to Leitrim, counties Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo are also under a similar warning. 

This latest warning comes on top of a Status Yellow wind warning which had been in operation in Leitrim and five other counties on the west coast on Thursday afternoon. 

The national forecaster predicted that Thursday afternoon and evening will see strong and very gusty west to northwest winds.
