Aughnasheelin National School which marks the 50th anniversary of the school which was opened in 1973 and will be celebrated with a number of events over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, August 4th-7th.

On Friday evening there will be  a celebratory Mass in the school yard followed by a book launch to celebrate 50 Years of St Mary's, containing articles from our local area and lots of photos of past pupils.

There will also be an unveiling of a plaque, which will be carried out by our ex pupil Francis Flynn who won the Unsung Hero award at the Leitrim Sports Awards in 2019.  Francis faces many physical challenges but doesn't let anything stand in his way and was a very inspirational pupil in the school.

A time capsule will also be buried on Friday 4th August which will contain a message from each of the current pupils for those who open the capsule in years to come. The school will also be open with a memorabilia display.

On Saturday there will be a function in Aughnasheelin Hall which will consist of a 'Reeling in the Years' type display of school events over the years, music from our local talent, including All Ireland Scór winners, and interviews of past pupils with our special guest, John Lynch.

Sunday will see a function held in the Commercial Hotel, Ballinamore with music and a disco for past pupils to meet and socialise. Monday will be the annual Fun Day which is run by Aughnasheelin GAA club.
