Closed Leitrim grocery shop may see new life as guest accommodation

Tagustop Limited has submitted a planning application to Leitrim County Council seeking to repurpose a building in Carrick-on-Shannon as guest accommodation.

The proposal pertains to Kelly’s Food Store on Dublin Road, which closed in June of this year.

The plans include converting the property into guest accommodation, constructing a first-floor extension over part of the existing rear annex, and demolishing a portion of the rear of the annex to create an open yard area.

Martin and Teresa Kelly, who ran the popular store for 36 years, closed its doors on June 28.

The store was well-known for its wide range of offerings including a deli, bakery and wine off-license.

A decision on the planning application is expected by February 18, 2025.
