Ballinamore Municipal District has been informed that plans for a footpath and pedestrian crossing at Carrigallen Health Centre are being considered.
Cllr Róisín Kenny requested that the M.D. look at providing a footpath and crossing to address safety concerns.
“There’s no footpath on the same side of the road as the health centre at the moment. I’m requesting that a pedestrian crossing be put from the entrance of the health centre, across the road to the other side,” Cllr Kenny said
“It is quite dangerous there and cars go at fierce speed out that road.”
Cllr Kenny said that when she was canvassing during the local elections, this issue was raised to her numerous times.
Cllr Ita Reynolds-Flynn seconded Cllr Kenny’s motion, noting the speed at the area had been mentioned in previous meetings.
Distinct engineer Darragh O’Boyle told Ballinamore Municipal that he has strongly proposed the idea of a footpath and pedestrian crossing to the Active Travel department and is eager for them to forward it to the National Transport Authority (NTA).
“The idea I have is to construct a footpath outside the health centre and link the two footpaths together with a ramped pedestrian crossing,” he said.
This proposal will be advanced by Active Travel to the NTA.
Mr O’Boyle described the planned works as a ‘very feasible project.’
A reply from the Roads department stated: “Leitrim County Council will investigate if this crossing is eligible for funding from the NTA’s Active Travel Investment Grants.
