Lovely lakeside amenity and strong vernacular streetscape highlighted for praise in Carrigallen

The Tidy Towns results were published earlier this week with the adjudicator's report noting that "Carrigallen is a nicely located village with a strong vernacular streetscape which has been conserved whilst yet facilitating a busy service function for the surrounding area. You are a community anxious to continually improve your village and you obviously are working well together."

The Tidy Towns committee was highly praised in the category of Nature and Biodiversity in your Locality with the adjudicator commenting, "Well done on maintaining the wildflower area along the steps from the viewing point overlooking the lake.

"Moreover it is great to see that you are not using any weed killer in this area, and that only very necessary cutting back is
carried out. Access to the shore on the other side of the town lake was indeed carried out without damaging what was there
already there. The native whitethorn hedge is doing well and will become a wildlife haven."
