Independent councillor James Gilmartin has welcomed the allocation of funding to TidyTowns groups across North Leitrim

Independent councillor James Gilmartin has welcomed the allocation of funding to TidyTowns groups across North Leitrim, recognising the tremendous voluntary work being carried out by communities to keep their towns and villages clean, attractive and welcoming.

The allocations identified for North Leitrim include €8,000 in funding for TidyTowns groups in Dromahair, Drumkeeran, Kinlough, Manorhamilton and Tullaghan.

“I warmly welcome this funding for our TidyTowns groups in North Leitrim. These grants provide valuable support to the volunteers who give so generously of their time and energy to improve their local areas,” Cllr Gilmartin stated.

“TidyTowns committees and volunteers make an enormous contribution to our communities. Their work goes far beyond keeping streets and public spaces tidy. They help enhance our villages, care for our local environment, promote biodiversity, improve public spaces and create a real sense of pride in the places where we live,” he added.

Cllr Gilmartin went on to to say that the work of these volunteers means giving up some of their free time.

“Much of this work takes place quietly throughout the year, with volunteers giving up their evenings and weekends to plant flowers and trees, maintain green spaces, remove litter and take on projects that make a lasting difference to their communities. Their commitment deserves genuine recognition and support,” he stated.

“Every euro of funding can help these groups deliver improvements, purchase materials and build on the excellent work already taking place. I would encourage everyone to recognise the efforts of their local TidyTowns committee and, where possible, get involved and support their work.

“Our towns and villages are stronger, more attractive and more welcoming because of these volunteers. I want to congratulate all the TidyTowns groups receiving funding and thank every volunteer who continues to give their time and effort to their community,” Cllr Gilmartin added.

Cllr Gilmartin went on to say that supporting local TidyTowns groups is an investment not only in the appearance of North Leitrim’s towns and villages, but also in community spirit, environmental awareness and the quality of life of local residents.
