RIP: Tributes paid to renowned Leitrim vet, ‘One of life’s gentlemen’

Tributes have been pouring in for esteemed veterinarian, devoted father, and grandfather Thomas (Tom) Crowe, founder of Crowe’s Veterinary Clinic in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Tributes are being paid following the passing of Thomas (Tom) Crowe of Carrick-on-Shannon, formerly of Moynehall, Cavan.

Tom Crowe, a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a cherished father and grandfather, is being remembered as “one of life’s gentlemen.” He was the founder of Crowe’s Veterinary Clinic in Carrick-on-Shannon. The practice will remain closed until Wednesday, June 25.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Kathleen; siblings Angela, John, Helen, Chris, and Donal; and his son-in-law Hugh. Tom passed away peacefully on June 20 at the Beacon Hospital with his family at his side.

He is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family: his devoted wife Kathleen; daughters Fionnuala, Arlene, Karina, Clodagh, Alison, and Kathy; sons Thomas, John, Barry, David, and Brian; his 28 adored grandchildren; brothers Barney, George, Oliver, Declan, and Brendan; sisters Kathleen and Teresa; as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends.

Tom is fondly remembered for his contributions to exemplary veterinary care in the town and for his kind and gentle nature.

“A renowned vet, Thomas’ legacy will continue for many years to come,” read one condolence message.

“Our town and community has lost a gentleman and a great servant who, like so many men of his vintage, helped build the great town of Carrick-on-Shannon we have today,” another message read.

Tom reposed at his residence on Sunday, June 22, and again on Monday, June 23, from 4pm to 8pm each evening.

Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon will take place on Tuesday, 24th June, arriving for Mass of Christian Burial at 2pm, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

“May he now rest in eternal peace after a life well lived and of dedicated service to the Farming Community,” read a heartfelt condolence.
