Condolences and memories are being shared following the passing of a Leitrim woman described as a “wonderful, kind, gentle lady.”
Breda Sweeney (née Hickey) of Drumlease, Dromahair passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, January 4.
She was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Nellie, and by her brothers Jim, Dick and John.
Breda will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Tommie, sons Eoghan and Tomás, sister Ann, cherished grandchildren Méabh, Helen, Niall, Anna, Tom and Patrick, daughters-in-law Josephine and Niamh, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Tributes and condolences have been shared on RIP.ie, where many recalled fond memories of Breda. “Breda was a lovely lady to know both as a friend and a work colleague; always cheerful and optimistic. May she rest in peace,” one condolence read.

“Breda was such a lovely woman and always so friendly when we met out and about in Dromahair,” said another.
Reposal is taking place at Fowley’s Funeral Home in Dromahair today, January 5 from 5pm until 8pm. Breda’s funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, January 6 in St Patrick’s Church, Dromahair at 12.30pm, followed by burial in Creevelea Abbey New Cemetery.
“We wish to offer our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of the lovely Breda. Always so kind and reassuring,” another condolence read.
Breda was also fondly remembered for her time working in Dromahair Library. “I have fond memories of chats with Breda when she worked in the library,” one tribute said.
“I have great memories of all the events she organised for children when she worked in the library. May her gentle soul rest in peace,” recalled another.
