Tributes are being paid following the passing of a much-loved Leitrim couple.
Mena Guckian of Aughakilconnell, Kilnagross, Carrick-on-Shannon, passed away peacefully on February 4, surrounded by her family at Sligo University Hospital. Ten days later, on February 14, her husband Mally Guckian passed away peacefully at home, also surrounded by his family.
Mena was predeceased by her parents Ellie Jane and Francie, her brothers Joe and Seamus, and her beloved grandson Oran. Mally was predeceased by his beloved wife Mena, his parents Michael and Fanny, his sisters Virginia and Lizzie Joe, and his brother Patsy.
The couple are sadly missed and lovingly remembered by their devoted family, including their sons and daughters Mal, Sinéad, Bernie, Emer and Sharon, along with their extended family, grandchildren, neighbours and many friends.

Condolences have been pouring in on RIP.ie, remembering the couple with warmth and affection. “May they both rest in heavenly peace. You’re all in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad and difficult time,” one condolence read. “Mally was always a nice, quiet, inoffensive man. May he rest in peace,” said another.
“I remember Mena as a lady with a wonderful energy for life and full to the brim with kindness, compassion and humour! Thinking of you all at this time,” shared one tribute.
Another recalled, “We had the pleasure of being a neighbour of Mena and her lovely family for a short time in Kilnagross. Mena was always so kind and welcoming to us.”
Funeral Mass for Mena took place on Saturday, February 7, at St Patrick’s Church, Gowel, followed by burial in Kiltoghert cemetery. Funeral Mass for Mally was held on Monday, February 16, followed by burial in Kiltoghert cemetery.

“Sincere condolences to all the Guckian family on the passing of Mally. Reunited with Mena so soon doesn’t make it any more bearable for those left behind but it shows the connection they had,” another condolence read.
