Leitrim County Council to address resident concerns in Drumlease estate

A meeting is to be organised between engineers of Leitrim County Council and the residents association of Drumlease Housing Estate.

Cllr Mary Bohan and Cllr Pádraig Fallon proposed similar motions at a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District seeking issues in the estate to be addressed.

Cllr Fallon requested an update on the works, particularly regarding the lighting and footpath, while Cllr Bohan called for upgrades to the road and footpaths, as well as the installation of a ramp or pedestrian crossing, grass cutting, general maintenance and improved traffic control measures.

“In one case the footpath is level with the road with no distinction which is causing problems,” Cllr Bohan said.

Eric Gilroy, area engineer, told members he will negotiate with representatives of the estate to address works.

He informed Manorhamilton councillors that while Active Travel had provided funding for footpaths within the estate, which were completed, additional works such as the installation of a second ramp didn’t proceed as planned.

He described the area as challenging for footpath construction due to issues with drainage and the thresholds of nearby houses.

The lighting in Drumlease Housing Estate is in charge, and the Council will look into what lights are out. Public lighting is currently being upgraded around the county.

A reply from the Roads department issued to both motions stated, “Leitrim County Council will liaise with a representative from the estate with a view to developing and addressing the concerns raised where funding and resources allow.”
