Accumulated snow on untreated secondary roads has left motorists across the country with treacherous road conditions this morning. Conditions are especially difficult on minor roads and untreated secondary roads and extreme caution is advised.
If possible do not travel today but if you have to take to the road please slow down and allow extra space between yourself and the car in front of you. Check all fluid levels and tyres on your vehicle before setting off and clear all snow, especially snow on the roof of your vehicle which can slip down and impede your vision during your trip.
Also ensure that all lights and windows are free of snow and ice. Wear warm clothing, ensure you have a coat and hat with you in the vehicle and bring a mobile phone so you can call for assistance if you find yourself in difficulty.
If you have elderly neighbours or isolated family please ring and check on them and if you have any concerns for their welfare check on them in person if possible and if not, contact the relevant authorities.
