Condolences have been pouring in following the peaceful passing of Tommy Prior of Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore on Tuesday, December 16 at Cavan General Hospital.

Fond memories are being shared and condolences offered following the passing of a Leitrim man described as “one of life’s true gentlemen.”

Tommy Prior of Lisculfea, Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, December 16, at Cavan General Hospital.

Tommy will be deeply missed by his loving family: his brother Seamus (Teresa), his partner Brenda, nephews Cathal (Brenda) and Gary (Bernie), nieces Brenda (Niall) and Siobhan, as well as extended family members Amy (Conan), Abigail, Ashling, Amelia, James and Alex. He will also be fondly remembered by his neighbours and wide circle of friends. Tommy was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret.

An outpouring of tributes has been shared on RIP.ie in the days following his passing. “Tommy was always a good friend and neighbour and there to give advice and help if  needed. He was one of life's true gentlemen,” one condolence read.

“He will be greatly missed by a lot of people. A lovely man who loved the chats with everyone that knew him,” another tribute said.

Funeral Mass for Tommy took place on Thursday, December 18, at St Mary’s Church, Aughnasheelin, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Well known throughout his community, Tommy was remembered for his farming knowledge and warm, approachable nature. One tribute recalled, “He was a man who had a good eye for cattle and his judgement was respected in the bygone days of local fairs and particularly later at marts throughout the north west and further afield.

“Of a very quiet and friendly disposition, he made friends easily and was renowned for his willingness to lend a hand where needed and be supportive of parish and community events,” the condolence continued.

“He was a gentleman and always full of life and chat. He will be sadly missed by all, may he rest in peace,” said another.
