Condolences have been extended following the passing of Tommy McCartin of Killameen, Drumreilly, who died peacefully on Friday, February 20, at Cavan General Hospital.

A Leitrim man has been remembered as a “true gentleman” following his passing after a short illness.

Tommy McCurtin of Killameen, Drumreilly, died peacefully on Friday, February 20, surrounded by his loving family and in the excellent care of staff at Cavan General Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Molly, and his brother Charlie. Tommy will be deeply missed by his devoted wife and best friend Mary; his cherished children Siobhán, Michelle and Ronán; sons-in-law Jason Martin and Tom Broderick; daughter-in-law Aisling Mulligan; his adored granddaughters Ella and Ada; sister Bridget and brother-in-law Patsy McGovern; sister-in-law Marian McCartin; mother-in-law Joan McGirl; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Those who knew Tommy shared a wealth of condolences on RIP.ie in tribute to him. “Tommy was such a true and loyal friend to our family over the years and have wonderful memories of being in his enlightening, humorous company on several occasions, his advice, help, encouragement to me was greatly appreciated,” one person said.

“He was a real gentleman and we looked forward to his visit every Wednesday night for the game of 25. You will be sadly missed by all,” another wrote.

“A lovely friendly man who always had time to stop for a chat when we would meet in Ballinamore,” another remembered.

Funeral Mass for Tommy took place on Monday, February 23, in St Mary’s Church, Drumreilly, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

“Tommy was a lovely friendly man with a kind nature,” one tribute read. “He was a lovely friendly man and he will be sorely missed by a lot of people,” said another.

Another message stated: “Tommy was a kind and generous man and a friendly neighbour who would always stop for a chat whenever you’d meet him. He will be sorely missed around Kilameen and Corrawallen.”
