Melvin Gaels secures spot on Gaelic4teens LGFA programme

The Gaelic4Teens programme is geared towards players and coaches of U14, U16 and U18 girls teams nationwide. The Gaelic4Teens programme aims to increase the retention rate of female players between the age of 13-17 in GAA clubs nationwide.

Research done by the GAA has found that girls between the ages of 13-17 are most likely to dropout of sports and this programme aims to combat this issue that many LGFA clubs are faced with across the country.

The programme will provide our teens coaches with training on the needs and interests of teenage girls in sport and give participating clubs unique activities programmes aimed to engage and retain teen players.

Participating clubs will have the opportunity to engage with big names in the LGFA community such as Mayo's Fiona McHale and Roscommon's Laura Fleming who are ambassadors for this years Gaelic4Teens programme.

The Melvin Gaels club has seen a sharp rise in level of girls taking interest in GAA and have made great progress with their U12, U14 and U16’s girls teams in a short number of years.

The programme will push coaches to create safe environments that will nurture the development of athletic and socials skills for girls as they progress in the LGFA.

With this programme, Melvin Gaels hopes to continue the successful development of ladies’ football within the club in the years ahead.
